Samsung has recently released the newest in their line of Galaxy Phones, The Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge + takes what people loved about the Edge and plus sized it. Is it worth the upgrade? Check out what my thoughts were on the phone.

The Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus  has an increased screen size up to 5.7″ from 5.1″ on the original. This increase is enough to make the phone easy to use while not making the phone feel too large or make the phone unwieldy. The screen is made from Corning Gorilla Glass 4. While the glass is strong, it’s not scratch proof. I did end up getting a scratch on the screen. The screen is very clear and has a resolution of 1440 x 2560 with a pixel density of 518 ppi. This is one of the highest pixel density’s available. The screen is very clear and great to watch movies and tv shows.

The body of the phone is made out of glass and aluminium. The phone is not very heavy and easy to hold. I would advise to get a cell phone case with this phone  as the glass back is easy to break. The back of phone cracked when a tablet was accidentally dropped on it. The rear glass of the gold version that we have also shows finger prints very easily. They are very easy to wipe off though.

The camera on the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus is 16 MP with a F1.9 aperture. This gives you crisp pictures and allows you to take HD Video’s in 4K at 30 Frames Per Second or 1080P at 60 Frames Per Second. This lets you replace you stand alone camcorder and keep all those valuable memories is video that is as good as you remember from the live view.

The front facing camera is no slouch either as it is 5MP and will make your every selfie look like a Glamor Shot.

To keep the S6 Edge Plus running Andorid 5.1 smoothly, Samsung has a Octa-Core ARM Processor with 5GB of Memory. The built-in memory for your app’s and music and video’s is either 62GB or 64GB. Unfortunately, there is no slot for a microSD card to expand your memory.

Battery life is rated at 28 hours of talk time and 18 days of standby time. With normal use I could get between 8-9 hours of use. Heavy use with lots of gaming and internet brought that time down to about 4-5 hours. If your watching video’s that are saved to the phone, you can expect about 6 hours of life.

One of my favorite features of newer phones that the S6 Edge+ has is wireless charging. You can set the phone down on a compatible charging pad and your phone will start charging automatically. The wireless charging is slightly slower than using a cable, but not enough of a difference that you will really notice it.

Another great feature on the S6 Edge+ is the edge screen. The Edge+ has been updated from the previous Edge phone with an added edge screen that allows you to keep your top favorite app’s right on the edge screen. You can swipe between that and the contacts edge screen, just the same as swiping between screens. Once you have your contacts set up, the Edge Screen can ” Flash” the color that coordinates with the contact that is that color. This happens when the phone is face down so you can see who is calling or messaging you without picking up your phone.  Another great feature of the Edge Screen is when you have the screen off, you just swipe up and down the screen and you can see the time, or switch between any of a number of Edge Screen options such as RSS Feeds, Stocks, News Updates, Sports Scores, Call Logs, Messages, CNN for Samsung among others.
